Last April I found myself with a little extra money on hand and so decided to invest in real estate. Being a complete novice in this type of venture I needed help with every aspect of becoming a landlord. Although I didn't know it at the time, luck was with me. I won a small lottery in the form of My Real Estate Agent, Chuck Callhoun.
Beyond the expected characteristics one might have for an agent, (honesty, integrity and service), Chuck was veritable windfall of knowledge. Chuck responded to my very loose idea of "I'm intersted in buying rental property" with 3 very differant properties (price, location, probable clientele) within a week of my intitial request. After viewing the properties he offered detailed information about necessary (electrical) and suggested (carpeting) renovations, costs and reliable trades people, landlord and tenant regulations, unexpected costs, and support services to manage all transactions once I had made a decision. Upon request he offered his opinion about the pros and cons of each property.
By June 1, I owned a rented property - all details from initial transactions through to a signed lease from my tenants having been handled by Chuck. Perhaps what I appreciated most though, was throughout this entire venture not once did I feel like I was being hustled by somebody whose prime focus was his commission.
Having gone through this experience I do have one regret - I wish I had met Chuck Calhoun 10 years ago when I first fantasized about rental property
